Carpentry Mentorship through Hearts

In the same beautiful Ugandan village the baskets come from, so do the hand carved wood hearts. Our Wood Candles come from the mentorship of Carpenter Levi, an Elder in the Village. He has taken to mentoring men and teen boys in his village in the art of carpentry - our 'heart' candles have provided hundreds of hours of carpentry skills and education.

What better way to learn a trade, than to be mentored by someone who cares. Carpentry mentorship in Uganda paired with candle making in Langley = Beautiful hand carved, 100% Local Beeswax candles. The unbelievable care and attention that goes into the making of these hearts is breathtaking. All the way from foraging the trees, to cutting them and drying the wood. Cutting the shapes, sanding, staining and polishing. And then the 6 hour trek to Nairobi to be shipped to Langley. All with beautiful smiles on their faces, and gratitude in their hearts.

When we receive them at the Funny Farm in Langley, they are received also with gratitude. The gratitude is for the mentorship and care. For the care it takes to take the time to impart an Elder’s knowledge on the young, and for the young to receive that knowledge and use it! Once at the Funny Farm, the same process is undertaken here. We have people with big hearts sharing their passions with youth. Youth that are dealt maybe a difficult hand in their young lives, youth that need care and love, youth that don’t want to be fixed, but want to be listened to and heard, youth with a voice worth listening to. We listen, we laugh, we learn from each other. All the while, filling these beautiful wood hearts with 100% local beeswax and eco braided wicks. The final product is beautiful, but the best part???
